SKINN or BISBY Watermen/Boat people? Doncaster and Mexborough.
« on: Wednesday 24 July 13 21:05 BST (UK) »
Hi, while researching my wife's family tree I have come across a couple by the name of George Skinn and Martha Bisby who were married by Banns at St Mary's church Barnsley on 26th October 1862.
George has his occupation shown as a sailor on the document, and his father is also shown as a sailor.
The brides father Joseph Bisby is also shown as a sailor so I am assuming that with the marriage being in Barnsley they were bargemen / watermen. Is anyone researching these family's? and where could I look to find out about them if they worked on the water?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Frank.

I wonder if Joseph married again, as Familysearch has Martha's mother as Elizabeth on her baptism in 1841      https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NFNV-196
