Charles Ford Cope - b 1908
« on: Friday 26 July 13 09:47 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for a Charles Ford Cope and have found the birth record for him (Belper 7B 738) but don't know which parish he was born in. I have found 2 possible candidates in the 1911 Census records.

Challes F Cope B1908 living and born in Ironville
Charles Cope B1908 living and born in New Westwood, Jacksdale

In both entries, the Father is William Cope.

My instinct is to go for the one born in Ironville, not only because of the inclusion of the middle initial, but also because Ironville is in the Belper Reg District, (Jacksdale is in Basford dist) but as the 2 parishes are so close together and I have no other information to work with, I would rather rule the other one out first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Deborah Cope

Could be a far reaching error, if you go for the wrong one - you will end up putting a lot of time, effort and money into a tree that is actually complete rubbish.

So better to take a bit of time now, to try and get the right one!
Some ideas that might be worth pursuing:

Does 'your' Charles marry? If so who are the witnesses? Are either of them possibly a sibling? If so, does that tie up with siblings of either Charles from 1911 .
Can you find the marriage for both the Williams from 1911? Does either by chance marry a Ford? If so, then they are more likely to have given Ford as a middle name to their son.
Did either William leave a Will? If so it might mention son or grandchildren, and you can see if either ties in with what you know of the correct Charles
When (if) your Charles marries, what address is he living at? Who knows, might still be the address he was at as a child in1911

I am sure there are other lines of enquiry you could pursue that I havent immediately thought of.
But I am sure with some rooting around, and looking at other members of Charles family, you will find something that either confirms one to be correct, or rules the other out. And, as I said to start with, in my very humble opinion, it is well worth waiting till that happens before moving on!

Another one -

What occupation does your Charles give for his father,on his marriage cert?
Does that tie up with the occupation of either William on 1911?

PS - must admit, I cant see either of the ones you mention on 1911.
