Anyone live in Bodfari?
« on: Friday 26 July 13 21:59 BST (UK) »
Fancy an amble round the churchyard?  ;D

I'm looking for a grave of Morris Davies died 2 Sep 1853 aged 49ish and Mary his wife (probably in same grave) died Dec 1884 aged 76.

Longshot I know, but would be grateful  :-*

I don't live there but Bodfari is on my list of places I intend visiting after September this year.I'm also looking for relatives who may be buried there.

I had a look this afternoon but I'm afraid the prospects are not good.
You climb 20 steps on approach and there are graves to the right and left. The bulk and the extension are in the rear.
The graves to the right and by the main entrance are circa 1850. The graves to left are circa 1870 onwards.
The majority of headstones are limestone with algae and weathered and very difficult to read. I found a two of slate which were dated 1850ish.That is why I think the headstone you want is by the front door. That is the good news!
The majority in this area (say 70%) are limestone horizontal headstones. They are 5' by 2'6" and very weathered. Also they are covered by dead grass, ivy, and grass. Some were completely covered by grass. You would have to brush the debris in your search and even then I doubt you could read the inscription.

You could try this site. You may be lucky, lots of photos of graves to look at, but you will have to open them to view them, there is no name index.
Go back to main index page, you will have to ask for a password.
Good luck  :)

I don't think it works anymore. I have access but cannot get any pictures and the email contact does not work either. It hasn't been updated for some time.
