Elizabeth Jones
« on: Monday 29 July 13 09:15 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a date of death for Elizabeth Jones who married Daniel Janvrin, sometimes listed as Valpy dit Janvrin. I have birth as 1796 for Elizabeth, and Daniel 1786. Daniel Janvrin was a banker, The Commercial Bank. I have their marriage as 1812. They are between St Peter and St. Helier (later in life). When I visited Jersey, and the excellent Societe Jersiase library, I have written down a note, which I cannot recall exactly what it means now, stating Janvrin Vault Plot 301, Elizabeth Jones date indecipherable. FYI the children are Daniel, William, Elizabeth, Ann, Amelia and Louisa.

On page 56 of the death index for St Helier which covers the period from August 1842 until February 1844 there is an entry for Elizabeth Janvrin. Following the Jersey custom of indexing women under both their married and maiden names there is an Elizabeth Jones on the same page.
From the position in the register I would estimate that she died mid 1843 but I can get an exact date, probably later this week or early next week.

This is the entry from the St Helier death register

02/06/1853 Elizabeth Jones, wife of Daniel Janvrin, son of Daniel, aged 51 years. The cause of death was cancer and the death was notified by W. Janvrin.

So this says 1853, not in between 1842 and 1844 as the other listing. All the names tally so this sounds right. However 1841 census puts her as 45, and so there is some variation in her age.

Sorry - typo

It has to be '43 as I only looked in the one death register today and that covered 1842-1844, St Helier Volume 1

Are there any Guernsey records over there, and do you know whether the church records are databased online yet. I think this Elizabeth was actually born on Guernsey, between 1791 and 1796.
