It looks to me like George may have been brought up by his grandparents.

1901 2 Rose Cottage - next door was 19 Bristol Terrace, Gelligaer.  No 20 was Rosehill Cottage at a  later date.  This is the address of George`s mother Mary Maria Watkins on the CWGC site.

John Price, Son, S, 44, Coal Hewer, Bedwis
Isaac Janes, Boarder, S, 53, Coal Hewer, Glam. Rhigwern?
MARY MARIA WATKINS, Wid, 46, Housekeeper, County Not Known Desborough and then someone has written Bucks next to it.  It is actually Northamptonshire.

Mary Maria Conway aged 6 was born Desboro* Northamptonshire in the 1861 census - parents George and Elizabeth and living in Kinnersley Herefordshire.

Sorry keyboard86! Mary Ann, but Mary Maria on the baptism..

Have found the memorial on the CGWC site and mother is definitely Mary Maria, and dad George Frederick has died.

Hi again, looks like  Rose Lydia aged 5 b Brilley is with her Grandparents George Gibbs Conway 55 b Bedminster, Dorset, and wife Elizabeth 56 b Brobury, Herefordshire at Harbour, Brilley, Herefordshire in 1881

Hi Deidre, if you follow George and Elizabeth back or Mary Maria in 1861 then birth places of George and Elizabeth same as 1881!

 :) Hi Deidre, if the 2 census returns you found for 1891/1901 were George aged 4/14 with also a brother William both shown in 1891/1901 as Grandchildren to a George & Ellen, then I think you have already located him?!
