Who are they?
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 07:16 BST (UK) »
Hello.  This is an Australian photo taken in circa late 1920's or early 1930's.
The red dot marks out my paternal grandmother, Blanche W Kemp (nee Perkins).  Seated in front of her is I suspect my father when a young lad of about 10.
Would anyone know the identity of any of the ladies or the 2 gents?  I think this was my grandmother's card-playing set.

Seated older lady on the far right is Elsie May Jenson. The lady beside her is her sister in law Edith who married Elsie's brother Jonathan. Young girl standing far right is Joan, the niece of Edith. Yes, the young lad is your father.

Sorry jk22, I really couldn't resist. I have absolutely no idea who these people are.  ;D I think their identities may forever remain a mystery. Your best bet might be to ask a relative if they have any knowledge of who the mystery people are. There is slim chance of anyone on rootschat being able to identify them. Sorry again.  ;)

Ooh Ruskie, you teaser  ;D. Hi jk22, as Ruskie says I think you will be lucky to get names. I have a photo with upwards of 40 people on it and even my mother (80 but sharp) who is on it as a young girl can't name more than half a dozen or so. Have you tried putting it on the Aussie board and saying, if you know, where in Australia it was taken. You might just get lucky.

Or try emailing a local newspaper and see if they will print it - many local papers have a 'historic corner' section.

The younger man at the back seems to be wearing a blazer of some sort and you could get a closer view of this and it might tell you something, blazers were often given if a person represented a club, province, state or country at something.    Cricket or tennis as the rest seem to be in summery type dresses?

The blazer is a "candy stripe" Melbourne private/independent boys school blazer with "colours" on the pocket indicating achievement - most likely on sport.  "Candy" strip blazers are/were for senior years boys.  Gut reaction is it is a Scotch College blazer (red, blue gold). But photo is in black and white so it could be a St Kevins College blazer (catholic) - green, navy & gold from memory.  Or a Wesley college blazer - purple, gold and another colour. All these boys schools are located in and around the area of Prahran, Toorak, Malvern(ish).
