It all seems a bit strange,Mary the eldest daughter born in 1831 is showing on Family Search as baptised in "England/Wales Non Conformist Index".Yet she doesn't show on the Blackwell Index of Non Conformist Baptisms for Denbighshire despite the Hope Penuel baptisms apparently being included on it.

Ah!It appears you could well be in business with the 1834 marriage after all!The Cocking Index of Non Conformist baptisms for Flintshire shows a Mary(Mathias)Thomas baptised at Hope Penuel Independent Chapel.Though David Mathias is shown as the father, she was born illegitimately to mother Ann Thomas.Ann Thomas is given as the daughter of William and Catherine Thomas. She was said to be living at "Green Wrexham" at the time of the baptism.

Excellent William. Much appreciated.

I wonder that since Ann had Mary baptised Non conformist maybe I should look in non conformist records for her baptism.

Thanks wilcoxon - I was not aware that James father was Edward

Thanks

Unfortunately Catherine herself doesn't show up on either the Denbighshire or Flintshire Non Conformist baptisms discs.

As far as the Ann Thomas is concerned the online Trees have her born 4th of March 1810,yet amazingly none of them give her parents!

It looks like Ann Thomas was baptised at Wrexham St Giles in 1810.

The Ann Thomas baptism at Wrexham in 1810 was on 4 March, to Thomas (wheelwright) and Mary Thomas  :)

Had a look in 1851 census James with father Edward and both shoemakers with no luck. There is a James who is a shoemaker but his father Edward is a violin player and they live in Stansty.

Yes, 1851 has Edward as being blind, and in 1861 he is entered as blind from birth, so it seems highly unlikely to be the right family.

Perhaps James`s father has died by his marriage, not always does it say deceased on a certificate.
