It was said in the other 1921 census thread that a rep from LAC indicated the census is currently being indexed and digitized. That takes time.

Believe it or not, the censuses were not designed as aids to Family History! ;D

While it may be of benefit to you, and many other, there are lots of people who were included on the 1921 census who are still alive, and perhaps may feel it is an invasion of privacy?

The England & Wales 1921 census was promised to be closed for 100 years - was the same true of the Canadian 1921 census?

when they did the census here it was on the basis that the records should be closed for 100 years for the privacy of the people who are and may be still alive as it includes personal and sensitive information and thats how it should be -

not sure how it works in Canada but surely they would be breaking some law of confidententialy in the most serious ??

should be signed and sealed up for 100 years then released - accordily to the law - so if we cant find anything we are looking for - its tough cheese we have to wait !!!

Canada has a 92 year wait before a census can be released. That was on June 1 2013, for the 1921 census.
Will post more information if and when I receive it from LAC.

In Canada the time frame is 92 years not 100 years.

I also agree with Jacquie. It takes significant time to index and make the nominal lists. Images will also be available. Petitions, etc are not going to move the process any faster. I think people have been very naive thinking they would have access to all information from the 1921 census in June. These petitions, comments, etc. started only a few days after the census was released from Stats Can. I personally think that LAC is doing a great job in making information available on the website and it is free. You can now access most available census that have been transcribed up to 1916 for free with images at LAC. LAC is also working on making earlier census info available as well.
