The one I found in 1891 seems to die - I wondered why I couldnt get him in 1901/11 to see what birthplace he gave then.

Thank you for all the added information and it certainly looks as if this could be my Thomas.  Wonder if I could be really cheeky and ask you to see if you can find his father Thomas b. 1830 Falmer, Sussex (sometimes shown as Brighton) on the 1891 Census.

Hmmm!
So,  Thomas was shown as Inn Teller? in 1890 when son Thomas got married but was still a shoemaker in the 1891 Census! Think I need a bit more investigation, never straight forward this game is it, but guess that is what makes it so interesting and absorbing.

   It looks more like "Traveller" to me, not that it helps much
