« on: Thursday 08 August 13 12:15 BST (UK) »
Mary Crowley came to Australia onboard the Maria 29th June 1850 she was aged 17 yrs a needlewoman from Dublin. Both her parents Edward and Mary were deceased according to her shipping papers,  Mary married Thomas McCANN - 11th April 1861 in Maitland i would like to know how do I find out at 17yrs who was responisble for her and what happened to her between when she arrived in 1850 and when she married in 1861.

The assisted passenger register says she had no relatives in the Colony. So no one in Australia were responsible for her.

I would think if her parents are dead then you would be looking for an organisation in Ireland who paid for her Assisted Passage to Australia
Gadsby's, Farmers, Neals - Leicestershire
Freemans, Littles, Corbetts, Branns - Australia

Mary was one of the Famine Orphan Girls.

Do you have Mary's marriage cert.? It might hold some information such as witnesses etc. And since she was underage when marrying it might be noted on the cert. who gave permission for her to marry.

Hi Giblet
thanks for the links haven't see that website before. Yes I have Mary's marriage certificate it states nothing about her birth place nor gives details about her parents or age, the witness to the marriage was Timothy J Mahony and Ellen McDonald they were married in the Church of ST John West Maitland according to the church of Rome.
they had a daughter in 1870 at tamworth NSW but they had children before her as stated on her birth certificate, I have not found either deaths for Thomas or Mary McCann

Trove could be worth a look at as well if you havent already. You might find some family notices where you recognise names etc that might lead to the death of Mary and Thomas.
