I'm really stuck.  I don't know how to find out anything about Ellen Moffat, the searches don't show anything up for her.  I know very little other than her mother's maiden name was Florence Jackson.  When grandma married she lived in the Staffs area but I know she had some roots in Scotland at some point but am very vague on specifics.

I wondered if anyone with more experience could help give me a start ...?

Your first best bet is to get her marriage certificate to find her father's name & occupation, then we can work back with definite information from that, a fair amount from free resources.

There is a birth registered in Wolstanton Staffs in october quarter 1909.
Do you know if grandma had any brothers or sisters?

could it have been Frances jackson not Florence?  there is a marriage to a possible James moffat dec 1907 newcastle under lyme (staffs)  freebmd

Hi Heather

I know for sure that Sydney, Eva, Lily, Samuel, Frances, James were all her kiddies - I've never heard of Roy or Jonathan?  How would I find out their Dad's name (my great grandfather?).
