Hi

Do the witnesses on the marriage entries give any clues? ie fathers or siblings?

I have the parents of the Wheller side but not the Perry side.  I have searched a number of websites in the vain hope but no regards Trish

Have you seen the actual details from the marriage certificate or are the dates from an index?

If you have seen the cert, who are the witnesses?

The John Perry/Elizabeth Wheller wedding is on FreeREG

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=1345034

The witnesses are William Wheller and Robert Robbins.

William Wheller/Martha Perry is also there, but copied from another transcript that doesn't include the witnesses.

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=3084561

There is also a second wedding for William Wheller of Huish in 1808, at Langport and with John Perry as one of the witnesses

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=1369027

Have you any evidence that John and Martha were brother and sister, or even related? Perry is a very common surname in the area.

There was a John Perry baptised at Charlton Horethorne in 1780 to James and Mary. Does that match the parents of the Martha from Charlton Mackrell? (Can't see her baptism in Charlton Mackrell.)

These two burials at Huish Episcopi could well be your couple.

If so, John was 83 in 1841 so born around 1758  and Elizabeth was 82 in 1856, so born around 1775.
Just young enough to have had a child after the wedding. She and Walter can be seen in the 1851 census. His age is given as 34, just right for born 1816.

John's age makes it more plausible that he could be Martha Perry's brother.

Huish Episcopi would be an obvious place to look for their baptisms. Unfortunately the relevant register is not available online as far as I can see, but FreeREG are working on it.
