The 1881 census is interesting. They have a servant so if they were doing alright for themselves they most likely come unassisted.
Also i noticed that Daniel was a few years older than Henrietta so he would have been in his 70's when they come over. Wonder if the trip was to much and he died at sea. I cant see a death for him in the UK.

Further to reply#8    William TAYLOR is also stepfather to Mr and Mrs Thomas BIRCH.

SMH 8 Mar 1900   death Mary Ann BIRCH widow of Thomas BIRCH of Sussex Arms  d. 24 Dec 1899 London.....mother of late Horatio......daughter  and sister are Amelia and Clara.

We know he was alive in 1881 and Henrietta stated widow in 1891. Probably died in America or New Zealand as they must have had family in those countries to have them noted.
