Market Deeping population statistics 1801 & 1821
« on: Friday 16 August 13 09:34 BST (UK) »
GENUKI quotes population statistics for 1801 and 1821 for Market Deeping on its Lincolnshire pages. Would anyone know the likely source of these figures? Is there a possibility there might be poll books for these years? If so, where would I be able to access this information?

Thanks

Clive

1. Probably the censuses.

2. Dunno.

3.  It's always worth an e-mail to Lincs Archives http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/residents/archives/about/contact-information/72378.article

Thanks.

I thought the census did not start until 1841 - am I missing something?

Apparently so http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Kingdom_censuses

"The first four censuses (1801–1831) were mainly statistical; that is, mainly headcounts that contained virtually no personal information."  See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census_in_the_United_Kingdom
