Brodie in Battle
« on: Tuesday 14 June 05 12:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for My mother's great uncle IVOR DE HAGA BRODIE. The last official record I have of him is in the 1901 census he is living at 2 Upper Lake, Battle and is a schoolboy, 13 years old. Living with him are his brother (my great grandfather EVAN WILLIAM BRODIE) and his Parents GILLIAM BRODIE (Nee CALLENDER) and WILLIAM HAIG BRODIE his father, and three servants.

The folio ref for this on the 1901 census is RG 13/876 (page 18)
Ivor's birth is in Qtr June 1887 in Farnham, Surrey Vol 2a p132

I cannot find any further record of Ivor - but I was recently given a photocopy of a printed copy of the Brodie family tree. Someone has hand-written in pencil under Ivor's name two further names: DONALD HAIG BRODIE and JEAN LORRAINE BRODIE. I am struggling to find where they are from and where they fit in to the tree. I have no dates for these mystery individuals whatsoever.

Any clues, anyone?

Ta.

Hiya -
thanks for everything so far. It's really what happens after 1901 that I am interested in as I have just about exhausted every other avenue before that.

I have tried looking for scottish records - but I draw a blank - there are no other Ivor Brodies that I can find. I know he is sometimes down as De Hugo rather than De Haga as his middle name. I can't find any record of a Jean Lorraine Brodie in scotland whose records match up with her fathers name.

Just had a closer look and I can make out some more of the hand written pencil on the family tree - Donald Haig Brodie was born in 1917 and Jean Lorraine Brodie was born in 1929.

don't know if this helps at all...

I'm really stuck on this one!

Thanks for all your help.

Hi again

Just spotted this in Kellys Directory of 1905 - principal inhabitants of Battle.

BRODIE William Haig, M.D.; C.M.; F.R.S.C.Eng,; D.P.H.; Surgeon to the East Sussex Constabularly & Post Office, Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator No 1 & 2 districts, Medical Officer to the Workhouse & Medical Officer of Health to the Urban District Council, Upper Lake.

Looks like he was a very clever man
