Don't rule out Kirk o' Shotts, it was the original parish burial ground but also has a cemetery extension. Anyone who was resident within the parish, no matter what their religion, was entitled to be buried in the parish churchyard.

Why don't you post some family names (and maiden surnames) just in case someone on this List has information to share. I have some 19th century burial records for Cambusnethan parish, the next parish to Shotts. Many Shotts folk are buried there.

I've recently been digging into the past for my surname Somerville.
I'm heading to Kirk o'Shotts today to look for a headstone that has Thomas Somerville d 1828 I believe this is the same relative that was born 1775 or 1776 this is as far back as I've got on the Somerville side and now searching to see if I can find the parents of Thomas.
