John MEIN/Troqueer/Locharbriggs
« on: Sunday 25 August 13 14:14 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find my GGG Grandparents John MEIN & Jane MEIN (nee Black) death details and their burial place.

They were married 9 February 1800 at Troqueer, Kirkcudbright.

The only other information I have is:

1841 Census -  John Mein 60  Jericho Cottage
                       Jane Mein 60 Jericho Cottage.
                       Janet  20  Ag Lab
                       James  4  (Probably their grandson)

Any information would be very much appreciated.

ev,

Thank you kindly for this information. Now I have something to work on.

Sadly John died before 1855 and Jane may have, too, I'll not get their death entries on Scotland's People.

ev,

Got the Will for John MEIN - interesting and gives me his death date as 26 March 1848.

Not sure what this means:

Amount of the Inventory and Appraisement of the household furniture and the effects belonging to the deceased made by John Sloan joiner at Auchencrieff Bank - £9: 11: 00

Sadly, three years later, 1851, Jane was a pauper. Makes me wonder why her family didn't support her. As she was a pauper, I may not find her death entry.

It was John Sloan.

Had a look at the Sloan family - Auchencrieff Bank. I was thinking of a Bank ( silly me) :-\.

Yes, it makes sense now and, may have been a family friend.

Have had a look on SP but there are no death entries for John MEIN or his wife Jane.

I know it wasn't compulsory to register BMD before 1855 but was hoping to find them. As John had a will, I would have thought his death would have been registered. Perhaps it was in the local paper. Will check the library.
