missing family
« on: Sunday 25 August 13 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi all

to those who like a good search, I have one for you. I am looking for John Moore and his children Ada and Thomas Charles. John was born 1835-7 anywhere between Leicester and Derby.
Ada was born 1879 St Luke. Thomas Charles b 1880/1 Islington. their mother died July 1897 so I thought they might be still together in 1901. but I suspect they have all moved.
I have lost them, can you find them?

Hi

Is the query just for the 1901 census? or for others? Do you have the family in any other census?

You mention that their mother died 1897?
Do you have her detaiis? Isabella Haynes?

It's quite possible that Ada had married by the 1901 census.

For instance there is a marriage 1897 Q4 Islington 1b 605
Ada Moore to William Henry Newell or William Augustus Shears.

ADDED: Marriage 3 Oct 1897 Ada Moore aged 20 of 81 Graham St spinster d/o John Moore waterman to William Augustus Shears aged 22 bachelor of same address s/o John Shears matheematical instrument maker decd witnesses John Moore, Rebecca Price.

Was your John Moore a waterman?

Hi josey

1891 if it is them, they are on the Regents Canal. he a horse keeper living Wharf road, in amongst the bargees.

RG12 167 89 p56
Lock House (Regents Canal) Wharf Road Islington South (Dist 16  actual page 57)
John Moore 56 Horsekeeper Dra(y)cott, Derbyshire, England
Isabella Moore 49 Clerkenwell
Ada Moore 12 St Lukes
Thomas Moore 10 Islington

He could be out on a barge somewhere in 1901

Especially if, as we surmise, both children had left home  :)

Hi all

Thank you all for your replies. Yes Josie John was a waterman.
I did suspect that they might have left home but I had not found the marriage of Ada to William A Shears, thank you Josie. I did suspect that Thomas might have joined up but I hadn't found anything to prove it. Yes, John could be on the water again somewhere.

Thank you all

Hi Ray

It was just for the 1901 as I thought that would give me a chance to find them on the 1911 as well.
I have info on the mother, her death, marriage and birth. I also have previous census.
As it happens, I now cannot find Ada or her husband on the 1911.

Hi Cullen

We can't do 1911 census look-ups for you on Rootschat.

I had a look for Ada on the 1901 census and found her with a daughter Kate....

Have you tried looking for Ada and/or Kate on the 1911 census?
