It was puzzling me why no details were showing up for the SHADWELL’s on 1911 Canadian Census
This explains why  surname SHAWELL says Helen spouse is Phoebe  ::)

address Lake Shaw Road
(this is the same contact address given for Chas shadwell for Helen & Bessie Shadwell on their 1917 Detroit Border crossing)
Charles 38 occ Carpenter born 28 Aug 1872 Yr Immigration 1902
Helen 39  born 9 Jan 1871 yr immigration 1904
Frederic 17 born 17 May 1894
Ellen 15 born 15 Nov 1895
Cecilia 10 born 10 Oct 1900
all born England, all Baptist

If we have the correct Sarah Hook on the census with her parents Thomas Hook & Ellen Wateridge - see reply No 30

her brother Charles was in the Army

Charles Frederick Thomas Hook
Age at enlistment:   14
Birth Parish:   Hurst Castle
Document Year:   1888
Regimental Number:   67590
Regiment Name:   Royal Artillery
Number of images:   6
Joined 13 Jun 1888 age 14 yrs 3mths enlisted Devizes 12 Jun ‘88
Ht 4ft 11in complexion Fair Hair Red eyes Grey Rel: Wesleyan
Home 12 June 1888 to 19 Feb ‘90
Jamaica 20 Feb ’90 to 16 Nov ‘91

Name of Next of Kin
father Thomas Hook 11 Bridwell Pl Devizes, mother Ellen

Charles died at Port Royal Jamaica of Yellow Fever 16 Nov ‘91

If you can obtain the 1893 marriage certificate of Charles Shadwell to Sarah Hook this would confirm both their parents names, you would then know for certain if all the census info. posted is correct
and/or
the birth certificate of Charles this appears to be his birth entry
Charles Shadwell  Sep Qtr. 1872 Devizes Wiltshire Volume:  5a Page: 106

I think I've found as much as I can - I'm sorry but I haven't come across a death for
Charles Shadwell or Helen/Sarah Shadwell,

Looking again at the marriage entry
it's an Affidavit Form required by the Marriage Act before a Licence is granted
it was Sworn at the Town Hall Mimico York signed by Charles dated 17th May 1924
he's a widower his occupation Carpenter born Devizes his parents John Shadwell & Mary PART

Also says THAT the contents set forth herein are to the best of my knowledge, information & belief, true in every particular. Document stamped   Registrar General Ontario received 22 May 1924

- so this certainly looks to be the same Charles Shadwell on all the censuses given.

It also reads  I certify that I solemnised the marriage .....Signature of J R Bell, Toronto Denom. Presbyterian Witnesses  J O Williams of Toronto & Barbara Bell Dated 20th May 1924

If the form was filled out truthfully then this would indicate that Charles first wife Helen/Sarah must have died before 1924 in either Canada or US

and as Charles Shadwell appears to be on the Canadian Voters List for 1940 York with a Mrs Shadwell
this is most probably his second wife so it would appear that he died after that date in Canada
- but can't say for sure until you find an entry :(

Might be worth asking on the Canada board and adding a link to this thread so information is not duplicated

I have been looking at Charles Shadwell because his 2nd wife was my grandmother's sister Beatrice May Howard born July 19 1885. She was married to a Donnelly and also widowed when she married Charles in 1924.  I can't find any further info for her and was hoping that by finding Charles that would lead me to additional info.
