On an ancestor's birth cert, father's profession - Trunk Cork Maker, any idea what type of job this was?

Are you sure it is 'cork'? There were Trunk & Port(manteau) Makers, Trunk Lock Makers, Trunk & Box Makers, etc. in the 1881 census.

It could be lock not cork.
