Here is Winnie's mother's death. I suggest you buy this certificate. I couldn't wait I have downloaded it. It will tell you about Robert the husband. Where she was born, how long in Victoria and the names and ages of her children. (That is if the informant knows that information).

Eliz Sharkey
Death Place: Coburg, Victoria
Age: 72
Father's Name: Kennedy
Registration Year: 1942
Registration Place: Victoria
Registration number: 12259

You can order the image and download it by paying $20.00 instantly.

Coburg is only about 3km from Brunswick - it is the bordering suburb. Coburg has a large hospital.

I can't find a death notice for her  :'(

Modified to add: Elizabeth died in Morella Private hospital of a heart attack. She is buried in Fawkner Cemetery. She married Robert at the age of 22 and she was a widow. She was born in Cheltenham, Victoria and she had 4 children. Jessie 45, Rupert dec, Angus dec, Winnie dec. The coronor ordered burial without an inquest. The informant was an authorised agent. Her usual address was 43 Napier Street, Fitzroy.

If you use google maps and put in the address the house is still there. Street view is very good.  ;)

I have been looking at the electoral rolls to see when Robert left, and I can't find him, but I did find Elizabeth in Napier St, Fitzroy in 1937. Prior to that the obvious ones are 1914 in Frankston and 1919 in Richmond (also not far from Brunswick and Fitzroy).

Could this be the death of Robert Sharkey's mother

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/61119497

A few family names mentioned in this death notice. Also could be the reason Angus was born in Kilmore.

It's nearly midnight here in Victoria, Australia and I will be asleep when you read this, but I think I have tracked Robert to Western Australia.

I will post more in the morning.

Welcome to Rootschat by the way. I have only just realized you only posted once. I hope you get my pm about sending me your email address so I can send you the death certificate. (and photos when I get around to taking them).

Cheers, Ted

Oh my goodness. Thank you so much, both of you - blown away by your help and kindness!

Leanne - thank you, thank you, thank you for tracking down the birth registration! I kept looking in the Victoria database but it just wasn't coming up for me.

Ted - thank you for all that info you've found! I have never heard about Lizzie Kennedy being named after the hospital(!) Do you think that was just a random typo when the records were digitised, or that she was actual,y named after the hospital??? I will reply to your PM now, thank you again for taking such an interest in my family history.
