This looks like the death of George:

VICTORIA, 1902, #9410
Geo Alfd CHERRINGTON, 47
Death Place:   Heidelberg, Victoria
Age:   47
Father's Name:   Cherrington Richd
Mother's Name:   Elizth
Estimated Birth Year:   abt 1855

Death certificates in Australia contain very good information, including marriage, children etc (dependent, of course, on the knowledge/truthfulness of the informant!).  Images of Victorian registration can be down-loaded for $AU20.  You will need the registraion number which I have given above.

TROVE has a mention of a George CHERRINGTON arriving into Melbourne from Sydney by the ship Glenelg in 1876
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/92253806
The item reads as though he was booked to go on to London but I don't see him on the PROV outward shipping lists.

George Alfred CHERRINGTON is shown on a list of voters in the Electoral District of North Melbourne 1902.

I cannot see him on later ERs though.

Hope your ear is feeling better.

I am not having much luck with ELLEN CHERRINGTON, the other sibling you say was in Australia.

Do you have any other information?
Marriage, letters, children, clues??

I'm not finding anything to show if this is the correct Ellen Cherrington ...  ???  Interesting that her husband had links with Queensland but nothing definitive.

cheers,

It is possible Darwin is interred at Atherton Lawn Cemetery.

The shire council who is responsible for this cemetery offers no service for search or lookup that I can find. I would be emailing them and asking that someone access the register and search for Darwin JOHNSTON and possibly Ellen with him.

Other chatters may have better local knowledge than me on this matter ;D

Hi Friends,

you have all got me so excited I will call my niece this afternoon she will highly delighted at the news and the help we have had from Australia, we are planning on coming over in a couple of years so we could maybe take some of the areas in.

I only got the details on Ellen from Richard Cherrington's War records he he joined up aged 16 yrs fought in the Boar War and was wounded twice " Slightly " he was also struck by Lightning, then after thirteen years with the Gordon's he joined up for WWI and went through that, he was some man, at this time he was in the Royal Scots ( Labour Corps ) because he was not 100% fit for the Front Line. At the time of WWI he was in Edinburgh and married hence my niece's grandfather.

I am sure the findings you have on Ellen are correct.

All the rest of the family's details were again from the Army Records, I will need to do further research on their father Richard Duncan Cherrington he may have come back to England or he stayed on in Ceylon, it is all very exciting and helping expand the tree.

If any of you ever come to Scotland especially Edinburgh I would love to give you a tour and take in a snack or two, so if you do give me a shout please.

Regards.

Archie
