Woodstown/Scrubyards/Baker Diggings/ woodville
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 11:44 BST (UK) »
There was a was a report on the Scrubyards Goldfield sent by Lamont Young, the Government Geological Surveyor, The Undersecretary Mines Department, Sydney, to the Department of Mines, Sydney. It was dated 14Th of October, 1879. I'm guessing that it went to the Minister for Mines.
I have added a copy of the beginning and the end of the document to show the address details. It was taken off Trove of course. It seems that Lamont Young included A sketch map with the report. This is what I'm hoping exists within the body of the report, somewhere in the letters, or reports, submitted to the Minister, or Mines Department.  The town of Scrubyards was 14 miles east of Temora. Parish of Wallundry in the county of Bland, New South Wales. Gold was found in 1879 and a township was surveyed and had numerous businesses, including five hotels and a Courthouse, by the first months of 1880. Any help would be great.......... very hard to do things so far from major centres.

Hi dy poss

Have you asked the NSW Mines Govt Dept for a copy of that report? It may well be stored at NSW State Records at Kingswood where most reports are, and waiting for volunteers to start/complete indexing those  files...

Have you checked where Mr Young's private papers may be held?

have you checked with the local council or their Archivist?

Cheers JM
