It's intriguing. I must admit it wasn't until I noticed that the designation by my "name" had changed, that I even thought about it. It'll be a long time until I become ennobled, I'm sure! Be the first one in the family if ever I do!!

Hard to tell to sometimes  :-\ I suppose it was the 'buddy' option that threw me. Not a term we use here in the UK much although in Wales (especially in the south) you hear 'butty' quite a bit.  ;)

I thought a butty was either a sandwich (ie Jam Butty) or an unpowered boat towed by a tug!

I assume such terms are because this is an American site?

"Oh no it isn't" (and it's not even pantomime season).

If you look at the bottom-right of all of the pages here on RootsChat, and at the bottom of all the notification emails we send out you'll see our address. We're British. We're in Bury, Lancashire in fact, the home of the 'Bury Black Pudding' and the 'World famous Bury market'  ::):)

Cor! You learn sumat new everyday, I thought everything west of the Pennines was America. ;)
And everything south of Watford was London. ;)

Guy,

That made me laugh! I must admit, I'm not a proper native of these parts - I've been taught 'Lancastrian' from Sarah, (and introduced to the delights of The Lancashire Hotpots) and in return I've inflicted given some Welsh rarebits of phrases back :)

Yes I must admit some of the Lancashire Hotspots were ok in their time (the Bury Palais, Wigan Pier etc) and I used to love Welsh Rabbit until I chocked on a bone then my mum never made it again.

However I must point out you haven't lived till you've spent a dreeck misty morning on a haggis hunt and tasted the fresh haggis accompanied by a single malt in front of a roaring coal fire, heaven.
Cheers

Hi,

Alas my Haggis hunting days are limited to visits to my local butcher in Eaglesham, who assures me that they are caught fresh that very morning. I am glad to say that I am still enjoying my Malt Whisky, whether it is dreeck (sic) or not. I am halfway through a litre of Glenlivet but got another in reserve, thanks to a bargain in duty free this year.
