I'd prefer something a bit less upper-crusty than 'aristocrat.'

I assume such terms are because this is an American site?
Which also explain such options as 'buddy list' and why my spelling of the words 'labourer' and 'colour' attracts those red lines underneath.  ::)

Moderator Comment: Nope, RootsChat is a British site, were based in Lancashire. Our address is on the bottom-right of each web page and on the notification emails.

Oh good grief, no!  Would an American site make special accommodation for posts in the Cornish language?  We Americans don't even know what the heck 'marquessate' means.

Hard to tell to sometimes  :-\ I suppose it was the 'buddy' option that threw me. Not a term we use here in the UK much although in Wales (especially in the south) you hear 'butty' quite a bit.  ;)

Hi Graham.

You can read about Roots here.

I must admit I asked about the buddy list as I wondered what
if someone didn't want you as theirs.  :o

I was just of the view that many Americans liked the idea of titles and such and would therefore promote them in some way. Most 'Brits' I know are not really bothered either way and regard it either as an embarrassment and an historical anomaly.

Comrade, that's far better.  ;)

"Oh no it isn't" (and it's not even pantomime season).

If you look at the bottom-right of all of the pages here on RootsChat, and at the bottom of all the notification emails we send out you'll see our address. We're British. We're in Bury, Lancashire in fact, the home of the 'Bury Black Pudding' and the 'World famous Bury market'  ::):)

The number of stars and the titles after so many posts was something we did as a bit of interest when we started the site some ten years ago. The choice of titles were chosen (loosely) of aristocracy as such was a reference to the 'old days' - and as this site is to do with family history well we thought it would be as good a set of titles as any other.  :P
