hitting a brick wall
« on: Saturday 21 September 13 23:01 BST (UK) »
Hi - hope that there might be some useful suggestions on how to find my Grandparents births & deaths, I have their names from mother's birth certificate, and their marriage date of 1951 in Glasgow, yet I can find no marriage certificate to give me an age or any other details - helpful suggestions very much appreciated :)

Welcome to Rootschat

Have you looked on ScotlandsPeople? It is a pay per view site but you can do a preliminary search using the names and year of marriage to see if they have the record.

How sure are you that they married in Scotland?  Could they have married in England or Wales?  Have you no idea where and when they died?  Is there no-one to ask?

Hi! Thanks everyone :) I have my mother's birth certificate, which states Glasgow as the place of Marriage for her parents,  I also have my parents marriage certificate which states that her parents were deceased by the time she married. Too sensitive to ask for details. I have been wading through Scotlands People andd other sites for months and getting nowhere. Parternal side of family traced back to 1780's and still more leads to follow, really struggling on maternal side.

No one checked that these marriages had in fact taken place, and not all had, even in the 1950's.

As they are both deceased,as MargP said give us their names and we'll see if we can find something for you.

Hi

Have you considered that your grandparents may not have married, have you done a search for either of them, to see if they were married to someone else.

Does your mother have any brothers and sisters, that you can ask for information on this
