I have also thought Maggie chose an interesting marriage particularly as he was much, much older and related.
Do you think it best to purchase Alfred's death certificate or Maggie's death certificate - I will have to contact the BDM office to see what type of information would be available on the documents - either 1931 or 1959

I think Mary may be correct but yes she may well have another name - Mary Jane was the grand-mother's name who died 1914  (Alfred's mother)   Mum gave me the names of Maggie's girls as she remembered them from child-hood.   She only knew Maggie as Mrs Sheppard

Thanks again ..............

I think the decision has to be yours as info on death certs is only as good as the knowledge of the informant.

The information is already here on our Victorian Resources Board

Thanks - think I will go for Maggie's certificate as it may be that the girls buried her and would therefore be good information, although I would imagine that Maggie might have provided the information for Alfred's death. Will think on it for a while, would like both certificates but they are so expensive. Enjoy your day, thanks again

I have found a death notice for Maggie Sheppard 23 May 1959 and it lists her daughters - Minnie (Mrs Vanson) Euphemia (Mrs Ford) Agnes (Mrs Hartford) Isabell (Mrs Shanks) and Mary - Mrs Hannett

Alison where did you find the 1959 death notice for Maggie?  I wonder if there is a remote possibility that the spelling of Mary's surname is incorrect :-\.

Have just discovered some additional information on the McJannet girls using the surnanames in Maggie's 1959 death notice - hoping this might lead to a clue to their half-sister - Mary Sheppard - Mrs Hannett

Agnes Jean - married John Hartford - Aggie died ????
Euphemia Margaret - married William Frederick Ford - Euphemia died 1986
Minnie Helen - married William Vanson - Minnie died 2003
Isabella - married Charles John Shanks - Isabella died ????
