The 1861 census has William as a Widower. As well as John he has a daughter Eliza 6 born chesterfield with him. It says William is born Elmy which I guess could be either Ely or Elm

1861 census reference, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

RG 9/ 2530/53 p 6

Joseph Elliott 39
Hannah Elliott 37
George Elliott 3
Thomas Elliott 1
William Coulson 41
Eliza Coulson 6
John Coulson 19

Possible death for Sarah
Deaths Jun 1858
COULSON  Sarah    Chesterfield  7b 333

I have to agree with you  David, that death does match nicely doesnt it for Sarah :(

Cant see a death for William anywhere though...there is always something isnt there!

I've found him on the 1871 census, still in Chesterfield, and he has remarried, a Charlotte Goodwin, who died in Chesterfield in 1896 :D

Your very welcome :)
Looks good even though his age/pob changes a bit.
I would get that Marriage Cert in 1840 if I was you.
It seems to be mistranscribed on Sarahs maiden name.
But it at least will give you her Fathers name/occp.

Its wonderful to see that someone is willing to spend money.
Its so frustrating when we find Marriages and people dont buy the Certs to confirm info..
Get back to us later when it arrives, I am very curious :)

I will do :) i'm the same....love solving a mystery! i dread to think how many certs i've bought this year...but sometimes they are the best way to get past an obstacle arent they......

I've also ordered the Birth Cert for Eliza Coulson, Johns sister, also born to William and Sarah.....so i can see what that gives as her mothers maiden name!

i'll post info when it comes :)
