Not sure if this helps but have had a break from nasty packing ~

This couple looks strong possible on the 1841 at Elm, Isle of Ely - HO107/78/6/11 :

Marginal note says 'called Wandby Hundred'

Wm Coulson, 20, Ag Lab
Sarah, 20

Neither born county

ooh well done Gadget! that does look promising!

i just looked again on Findmypast ...no wonder i didnt come across that one...they've transcribed it as Caulson, and not shown Sarah in the same house as William! but i bet thats it! the Hundred ties in nicely with the 100 on the birth certificate :)

If only i could find them on the 1851 i might find where they wre born then! :D

Well found that 1841!  :)

Gadget, do you think the certificate says "Bacon's 100"? Presumably this is a shortened form of Hundred as per your find of Wandby Hundred?  :-\

(packing? where are you going? ;))

zhunter, the 1861 should give William's place of birth - you said you have that.

Hi Ruskie

It looks like Bacon's 100 to me - maybe different local names for same place - we need an old map, local knowledge  or whatever. I'm not all that familiar with that area.

I did have a quick look on Old Maps earlier but didn't see Bacon's 100. Since the changes at old-maps it's too fiddly to use and I don't really have the patience to persist I'm afraid.

The 1861 census has William as a Widower. As well as John he has a daughter Eliza 6 born chesterfield with him. It says William is born Elmy which I guess could be either Ely or Elm

1861 census reference, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

RG 9/ 2530/53 p 6

Joseph Elliott 39
Hannah Elliott 37
George Elliott 3
Thomas Elliott 1
William Coulson 41
Eliza Coulson 6
John Coulson 19

Possible death for Sarah
Deaths Jun 1858
COULSON  Sarah    Chesterfield  7b 333
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
