Harriet Haynes born 1841 Hailey, Oxon *COMPLETED*

Hi all,

I'm looking for the birth/Bapt. for Harriet Haynes in 1840/1841 the d/o William a baker.

I have found her in the 1841 census (aged 6 mths) and again in 1851 (aged 10) but written as Hannah, with her parents William (confectioner) and Martha.

Any assistance most appreciated.

why are you looking for the baptism of a Harriet Haynes/Haines when you have her in at least 2 censuses as Hannah?  Are you working from a marriage cert?

Edited to add:  I see now- she is Harriet in the 1841 but Hannah in the 1851.

Hi,
Sorry if i've caused any confusion.

In the 1841 she is listed as Harriet  but Hannah in the 1851 and with the same parents.

She married in 1860 as Harriet and this info has been taken from the transcriptions
by another R/Chat member.

There is another Harriet Haynes born about the same time but bapt. in Hook Norton which is the wrong one.

But this covers Hook Norton so not yours?

Added: Can't see anything on familysearch.org either.

Yes - you are correct. That Harriet was the one I originally followed which turned out to be the wrong one.

The only thing I can suggest is that you order a certificate from the GRO stating that the father and mother's names must be William and Martha. They will search a year either side of 1840 and if they can't find it then no charge to you.

As I added to my last post I can't see anything on familysearch.org either.

The Oxford FHS transcript for Hailey has:

1 Nov 1840 Harriet dau of William & Martha Haines, Hailey Baker

There is another Harriet Haines baptised on 9 Jan 1842 - the dau of William & Esther, Hailey, Lab. This William occurs elsewhere as a Spinner.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks  for the entry of 1840. That ties in very nicely with the 1841 census.

It wouldn't  be the Harriet bapt. in 1842 as her birth presumably occurred after the census was taken.

I think her name of Harriet was written down as Hannah in 1851 by mistake as all other details match up.

As a separate issue, would your transcripts show also the marriage for the parents? I can always do a fresh lookup request.
