My brain is scrambled (no comment please) I've been sat here over 2 hours going round in circles its a good job I've only myself to please and I enjoy trying to help so it doesn't matter if the dusting doesn't get done but I'm getting cold so will have to move but might be back later.

I can see a Thomas Kay in the 1851 census age is out by 3 years he was born in Stockport but now living in Lancashire he is classed as a son but parents names are John & Sarah Coppock this says to me that it was a 2nd marriage for Sarah. Occupation for Thomas though is a weaver but people did change jobs, but we are only guessing at this info that we are finding.

+There is a baptism
Thomas Kaye
baptised 29 Oct 1829 Almondbury Yks
son of William & Sarah Kaye of Longley
father's occ Farmer

there is this burial
16 May 1837
Almondbury Yks
William Kaye
of Longley
age 44

so this is just supposition
Sarah Hirst (father Joseph) was b in Yks
Married William Kaye at All Hallows Almondbury
Jun 1829
Had son William -baptised Oct 1829 in All Hallow
William Kaye died 1837 in Almondbury

so did Sarah move to Heaton Norris (1841 was in boro of Stockport co Lancs)
She married John Coppack in 1840 (he had previously been married -he was a widower)

So did Thomas think he was born in Stockport as it was where he was raised - he was too young to remember who his father was - if he was ever told

or are we on the wrong track????

What do you think carolanne?

only failing I can see is on 1851 census there is a John Kay unmarried age 29 described as son of John Coppack (and Sarah)?

1841 I can find John Kayage 19 occ piecer  living in Stockport
John Kay age 20 Collier living in Dunkinfield Stockpot

neither seem to be with any  family

If John is Sarah's son he would have been born before the marriage I gave???

Hiya Suz
I think you have done very well in your findings I had seen them and this is what was doing my head in.
In the 1851 census John Coppock gives his place of birth as Stockport Cheshire in the 1841 census it says of this County which is Lancashire and in both he is a shoe maker so I think its looking good and there is a Thomas listed in both census so I think Sarah is a good match for the mother of Thomas. As you know anything is possible when doing family search people don't know where or when exactly they were born as to the other son John he could have been born to Sarah before she married the 1st time.
I think its the best we can do for now.

A little more information, Thomas Kaye died in1880, and  listed as Stockport,
As Regards the name Lister thats a mystery although The Lister Kayes are well documented in the Yorkshire area.

Than you all for your efforts.

Hi Suz and Carolanne, I have been trying to get hold of records of Thomas Kaye's Birth certificate ,If he was 20 when he married Sarah Ann Tree  then he would have been born in 1835, But most the sites I have checked only start at 1871.

Looking at the information you have found it looks as if a Thomas Kaye and Sarah Hirst of Almondbury could be the parents Im looking for.

Thanks Ernest

FreeBMD starts at Sept qtr 1837 -as that is when official registration began
Many births weren't registered until much later when fines for non registration were being brought into operation.
So parish registers have to be relied on
Sometimes on baptism the d.o.b. was entered too
