US citizen arriving Queenstown in 1885

Did Ireland keep records of ships/passengers arriving in the country in 1885? I am searching for my g-grandfather Patrick Carroll arriving in Queenstown from the US probably in mid/ late May 1885. Thanks

'Ireland' didn't keep passenger manifests but the U.K. did- 1878-1960 available on Ancestry. If you haven't a subscription then you might be able to get it at your local library. However, if you do find him there will be minimal details (name, age and occupation).

Not a limit but it is a nuisance to keep seeing requests for the same person keep appearing. Keeping all details on one topic makes it less confusing both for anyone trying to help and the person looking for the information.

It's not a big deal, Richard.  Pretty much everyone makes this mistake at the beginning.  It's just handy to keep related bits of information together so that people do not duplicate their search efforts.

Members can't remove each other's posts (now that would really cause chaos). Multiple threads mean that all the information found (in this case about Richard Carroll) appears on different topics- someone reading 1 of them might post information (say a death notice) and one or more other people might spend lots of time looking for the same information not realising it's already been found and posted on another thread. After a while you might look up one of your topics and forget you've already been given information. So, less confusion for everyone to be able to read everything in one place.
