« on: Monday 30 September 13 09:33 BST (UK) »
I went looking for hugh smith ancestryand the ancestry and maiden name of his wife mary and found instead a polly smith and john smith so I am going back from there now. I am also gradually finding taggarts as well. why would a man change his surname I am sure that it said something like john smith or Bennett. anyway I will check again on ancestry and come back when I have checked
possibly try copy and paste.

I'm not sure that I follow your post, Marcie, but you aren't allowed to use cut & paste from sites like Ancestry.

Polly is often a nickname for Mary but can't understand why you started looking for a Hugh Smith and are now following a John Smith.

Ancestry actually have very few Irish records.
