Carrigrohane - Flour Mills
« on: Friday 04 October 13 01:11 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Would anyone know where I could find more information on the history of the Flour Mills in Carrigrohane in the 19th century? e.g. who owned it, when it closed down, names of employees (etc)I think from the Cork 1875 directory that a John Dunlea & Co. owned it but thats about all i've found. Any information would be a great help.

"... Around the year 1830 Carrigrohane castle passed to Augustus Robert McSwiney, a corn merchant in the city (at 18 Dunbar Street) who also owned Carrigrohane Flour Mills, mills, which are illustrated in Grogan’s painting (buildings were later demolished)... "

Bit about McSwiney family here

1913 directory lists "Dunlea P, flour and meal mcht"
