Hi Groom,

Yup, looks like the POB's in the 1871 have been reversed also Emma/Emily seems to alternate her name between the two!

Many thanks.

Kind regards

I dont think Thomas was born until after the 1871 census, so they got his age wrong in 1881

Hi Groom,

Many thanks for that, that would certainly explain Thomas's not being present in the 1871 Census.

I'm struggling to get into freebmd at present, probably too busy! Grrrr! ;D

Kind regards

Not unusual, my aunt was Emily but was always called Em or Emma.

Hi Claire & Groom,

Many thanks for your replies, very much appreciated.

Claire, many thanks indeed for those christenings, much appreciated. Incidentally the 1881 census entry for Emily & family on familysearch has the address as 6, Forster Road, Croydon whereas the christenings are Foster Road. Wonder whether the census address has been mistranscribed!

Groom, many thanks for that, it would certainly explain it! Also many thanks for 1851 Census for Gosden family.

As I mentioned in my last post I seem unable to get into freebmd at present (trying to find out what happened to James Arthur Phillips in 1881 as he's not at home. However I have found this possible in 1881 on familysearch.

James Phillips, age 14 b1867, no place of birth, an inmate & scholar at Surrey Certified Industrial School in Byfleet, Surrey (RG11/769/83/6)

Would I be able to find records of such a school & if so where would I find them?

Many thanks once again.

Kind regards

David
