Austin Woodcock
« on: Tuesday 08 October 13 13:42 BST (UK) »
Austin Woodcock was a 2 yr old boy living on Cherry Lane, Lymm with his parents Henry (35) and Ann (24) Woodcock and his older sister Annie (4).  His birthplace is given as Warrington

There is no sign of a birth for him via FreeBMD nor a baptism in the Lancashire Parish Chest.
I can't find anything in Cheshire Baptism Database.  One possibility may be a baptism at Bowdon which I don't think is covered by the Database yet.

Could someone check for me, please, and/or suggest other options?

Thanks Stan I see it.

Have you found a baptism for his sister, maybe they were done at the same time.  Doesn't explain why no BMD entry, the one that keeps popping up was born Sheffield  :-\

Have you got the family on a later census to see if Warrington is consistent?

Austin Woodcock aged 26 -Bachelor -  Motor Car Driver from Lowerhouse ....where is this ??
Sarah Hacking aged 29 spinster from Inkerman Street ,Padiham

the age fits perfectly ...
ADDED...wrong Austin ...Lan-opc has his dad as Albert - Motor Mechanic

checking freebmd ....Lowerhouse and Padiham are both Burnley area

ADDED again - I can only find ONE Austin Woodcock b 1895-1900 and he is registered Barnsley,Yorkshire  in 1898 ??

1901 census:

henry Woodcock age 40, head, chimney sweep, born LIVERPOOL
Annie Sarah age 30, wife, born Gorton Lancs
Sarah annie age 14, daughter born Warrington
Austin, age 12, son born warrington
William Moores, age 2 son, born Leigh Lancs

Living at 22 queen Street Wigan.

Piece 3554, folio 161, page 2

I'm sure this must be the same family thoguh there are inconsistencies between the 2 censuses.

Yes, the info was from the 1891 census - but you have sorted that.

Henry Woodcock married Sarah Ann Shakeshaft in Dec Q 1888  (Warrington RD).  Austin had an older sister shown on the 1891 Census as Annie (aged 4). An Annie Woodcock was registered in Warrington RD in Dec Q 1886 - before the marriage of Henry and Sarah Ann.

I am reluctant to obtain the certificates here as I have offered to help someone else who believes it is her family and especially that Austin Woodcock is hers. I hope to be seeing her tomorrow.

Though in the 1891 census Henry was recorded as being born in America in the 1901 he is recorded as born in Liverpool :D.  in the 1901 the family - all four of them - were in Wigan, Lancashire.  Ages tally and Austin is single and born in Warrington (as 1891).  In 1911 he is on his own in Sheffield recorded as a nephew.  The Head's wife's maiden surname was Woodcock.  There is more to find out about this chap but as I said he is not really mine..

My main aim at the moment is to find a baptism .  .  .  .   .    with help :) :)

Thanks Garstonite for your two most recent posts.  They arrived while I was constructing this.
