Horse Driver. Day Cleaner? i.e. Day labourer. A general term for workers above or below ground, receiving a fixed time rate of wages. The occupation code is 160 Coal and Shale Mine - Other workers below ground.

Or perhaps Way Cleaner? Compare the W in Widower.

I agree with Stan -- Horse Driver. I think it may be written as House (compare with Housekeeper), but surely Horse was intended.

See here, under Rolley-Way Man (1892)

I agree it is Way Cleaner, aka road cleaner, road sweeper; keeps underground roads clean by sweeping up debris and loading into tub. "A Dictionary of Occupational Terms"

Just to say that a Way Cleaner would also be a Day labourer, or dataller/dataler/datailer/dateler/
The Lancashire term was 'dilker'.
