Afternoon - can anyone help me with this problem, please.

Henry Goodsell appears on the censuses with a wife called Fanny, but I cannot find a marriage to her on FreeBMD, I have found an Emily  Waghorne but the marriage took place in Biddenden some way away from his roots, in October 1871.

I haven't got Biddenden marriages for that year, but I do have Banns, it that is any help.

Their first child was born in 1873 (Stourmouth) which makes me think he married before then (I know even in those times not necessarily so). 

Houghton is near Dover so N.Aylesford is a considerably long way away from his roots.

There's a Fanny SHAXTED m a Henry "GOODCHILD" Eastry district December quarter 1872 ref. 2a 1495.  The marriage appears to have taken place at Wingham http://www.findmypast.co.uk ....... can they be discounted as I couldn't immediately see them in the census under GOODCHILD

You have thrown a 'spanner in the works' with that one.   I am trawling through Goodchild & Shaxted family trees to find either a Henry (no luck as yet - so looks promising) and a Fanny Shaxted (no luck there either).   It is certainly typed GOODCHILD on the Birth Register but that means nothing really - all open to the clerk's interpretation.

Thank you Grandarog - Henry obviously got younger over the years!!!

Could I trouble you to look at the 1871 census as I have found a Henry Goodchild boarding with Robert Wellard, Jane Willard & Mary Willard in Staple which puts him into the right area to meet Fanny, and that is when the spelling could have become confused.
