Who were the witnesses to Reginald's 1937 marriage, what address does it give for him?

The address for Reginald is 61 Westgate Street, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

Ps. Sorry for any irregularities but I am trying to highlight the previous question!

Thanks Bonnie,
Reginald got married two weeks before he turned 21. The witnesses are A.E. Smith, and F. (R or K)
Froud. I think Froud is Florence Froud a friend and I do not know who A.E. Smith is. At the time of his marriage he lived at 61 Westgate Street, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. All we know about Ralph is he was in sales and supposedly named Ralph Godfrey. Thank you for helping me and your good ideas!

Yes you did answer that one back in reply number 11  ;D

Hence my suggestion about trying to get to see the Bury St E electoral rolls.

Carol

Thank you everybody. My plan is to check the electoral rolls for Reginald's Bury St. Edmunds address at the time of his marriage; screen the local newspapers for info relating to Ethel's death; while on my trip to UK at the end of November. In the meantime hopefully Ethel's death certificate may reveal something, which is due about the 6th Nov at mum's house. I'll keep you guys' posted.

Also does anyone know if there was an inquest into Ethel's death, would the inquest findings be available for public viewing etc.

Hi

There are only 3 death records for a Ralph Godfrey in the time frame between 1919-1937

Ralph R Godfrey b 1863 d 1936 Witney Oxfordshire I think that this one may be too old
Ralph Godfrey b 1885 d 1925 Cardiff Glamorgan
Ralph Godfrey b 1889 d 1919 Prestwich Lancs

Ralph was a Sales Engineer on the marriage, and may have travelled around the country, and could have died anywhere, have you considered that, they may not have died in a car accident, why were the children in Bury St Edmonds, were they evacuated there during the war, could one of these deaths be Ralph  and Lilian remarried and never went back for here children.

Just my thoughts on this

Good morning

A long shot

The death that stands out for me, is the one from Glamorgan, this may tie in with the Raphael b 1884 on Jorose post 23

Marg

Marg, I too was looking at the Glamorgan death a couple of months ago. When I get a couple of hours I'll research and check it again. thanks again.

I have never known an inquest record to survive,if they are in the newspaper, they usually give the full facts of the case there.

My gg grandfather was a coach driver (1880) he died when he fell off the drivers seat and onto the road. I found that all out from a newspaper report which Westminster record office kindly found for me,photocopied, and posted to me all for £2 !!!

I had the exact date of his death though so they knew which paper to look in.

Hi

I have checked all my on line sources for the Newspapers, but there may be some at the Archives that are not on line, I would contact them before your visit, when you have the date of death for Ethel, fingers crossed, it will be interesting to know who the informant was on the DC for Ethel

Oh, thank you for checking the newspapers. I believe the newspaper is the Bury and Norwich Post or the Bury Free Press. I'll be discouraged if I don't find any thing though. But I'll keep searching any way! I'll keep you posted. thanks again.
