Hello, yes - that is the death certificate I have, but I don’t see evidence of corroboration. The cert states he was a widower and did not know his mother’s maiden name, so it’s not internally consistent enough to be accepted prima facie. I will keep looking into it though. He is a reasonably close relative.

Hi.

After investigation, I don't think this is our Richard Evans.

The one who married Sophie Loeffler in 1881 also appears in 1860 census This censuses in Michigan  has Richard the son of John Evans (A Blacksmith) and Mary. whereas our Richard Evans is the son of John Evans (A Blacksmith) and Elinor and in 1861 Wales Census the family are still in Anglesey (not USA).

Back to the drawing board I think.
