Look up request 1851 Wills Henry or Richard
« on: Thursday 16 June 05 21:14 BST (UK) »
I am a newcomer and seek assistance from anyone who may be able to help me find Henry Wills and his father Richard who I believe were living in the Hamlet of WAY near Minster in Thanet around 1841 to 1855

Hi Eltel,
I've checked the hamlet of Way on both the 1841 and 1851 census, but can't find either Richard or Henry. Have you got details of their ages, birthplaces or any other info that might help locate them. The hamlet of Way only has a few inhabitants on each census so I couldn't have missed them !! Do post again if you've anything else to add.
xx Carol.

 HI carol,
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond it is appreciated.
There is a lttle bit of a story behind my cry for help as I have looked in all the usual places trying to actully locate Henry WILLS place and date of birth.
Henry is my Great Grandfather and this is what I have.
He married at Woolwich Registry office on the 5th November 1884 at the ripe old oge of 38.
On the certificate he is listed as a Bachelor and his father was stated as Richard(deceased)
The next record I have is he had 2 sons both in Greenwich and on the certificates Henry is stated as a labourer at the Royal Arsenal Woolwich.
Then I have a copy of a census for 1891 when he was living at Charlton aged 44 and it stated that he was born at WAY, Kent.
He died in 1897 Aged 50.
From all of this I dedued that he was born in Way in 1846/47.
I have a whole list of Henry´s on the GRO look up that may have fitted the date but not the place. I have sent for and received certificates from all over the Country but not one of them has a father called Richard.
So, hence back to Way or the Thanet area hoping that Richard and his son Henry might just appear on a local census from which I could at least pick up his mothers name and begin to persue back and beyond Richard. At the moment I have hit a brick wall but know the answer is out there somewhere.
One other piece of info is that the family believe that Henry was inthe army which might account for the fact that he did not marry until 38 years old. At the time of the marriage he was stated as living at "The Camps Charlton" which I understand was the Royal Artillary camp.
Do hope you can help as I live in Spain and have to rely on the computer instead of doing the proper leg work.
Regards
Eltel
