Goldsmith
« on: Friday 25 October 13 16:38 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the birth of George Goldsmith circa 1831 in Tonbridge Wells. I believe his mother was Mary Roffe but by the 1841 census she was a widow. Without the name of his father I cannot get back any further. I would also like the name of his wife. By 1861 he was married to Ellen a dressmaker. This may have been Ellen Kilty but without seeing the record I am not sure. Grateful for any help.

Are you on Ancestry, if so there is a tree on there that names his parents as Henry Goldsmith 1808-1840 and Mary Ann Roffe 1807-1851. If not then you can view the same tree on http://www.mundia.com, its free to register

The marriage of Henry and Mary Ann is on familysearch

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thank you for the info. on Goldsmith. Do you have the parish records for Tonbridge? If so is it possible to trace the birth of Henry and name his parents?

Sorry I don't have access to the tunbridge records other than familysearch.

The marriage to Ellen Kilty is probably too late (1860) as George had a child of 6 years old in 1861 making the 1852 marriage that I suggested in post 2 more likely.
