Palmers of West Sussex and Hnats
« on: Monday 28 October 13 23:00 GMT (UK) »
Good morning.
I have recently acquired a number of Wills of the Palmers along with Catherine Palmer-Woods we are trying to make the connections between the Palmers of Westbourne, Warblington, Stoughton, Singleton, Petworth, Parham etc. We are trying to find out why John Palmer and his family felt they could use the coat of arms of the Palmers of Wingham in Kent and Dorney Court in Hants. The son of John Palmer 1760-1733 George Thomas Palmer did marry into the Southcote family who are connected to the last mentioned.

Thank you for getting in touch. I have no record of our Palmers being in Wales or Yorkshire.
Best wishes for your research. Lefayre

This early research is very difficult without going to the appropriate record office as very little is online.  Have you looked at the A2A site to see what records are held in the South East?  For example,  putting in John Palmer with dates 1600 - 1750 brings up several hundred references.   See below.  Most will be irrelevant but you might find a few nuggets that will help.    Using advanced search you can tailor it to the names, places and dates you know are correct.

A Coat of Arms is in the ownership of a person not a family & dies with him.
A family Crest on the other hand can be used by different members of an extended family.
