Gas works at Tunbridge Wells
« on: Wednesday 30 October 13 16:31 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on the gas works at Tunbridge Wells. I have the census of 1861, which puts George GOLDSMITH as a gas fitter in Tunbridge. I have tried looking for info. on the internet to no avail. Am now wondering if anyone out there knows anything please.

I presume you've had a look at this site: www.highbroomssociety.wordpress.com/tag/tunbridge-wells-gas-company   which has some images of the gas works.

I have looked at that , but it describes the new gas works built in 1880. I need further back in 1861. By the 1881 census, Henry had become a gas manager and I presume he was at the new gas works, but I was trying to find out  what it was like before they were built. Thanks for your message anyway.
