Thomas Robert Clifford Irwin-Calgary
« on: Thursday 31 October 13 12:06 GMT (UK) »
If anyone could provide any information about this person I would be very grateful.  I think this man is a match to my family tree.

As far as I know he was born in 1911 to William Frederick Irwin and Ann Quinley who were both from Ireland, and he served in the RCAF during the second world war.

Is there anyway to check that Thomas Robert Clifford Irwin's parents were William and Ann?

Many thanks

Some food for thought ....

1916 Canada census for Kindersley, Sask has ...

Wm Frederick Irwin 30 b. Ireland, immig 1908
Annie 30 b. Ireland, immig 1908
Lily 7 b. Manitoba
Clifford 5 b. Sask
Violet 3 b. Sask
Wm 1b. Sask

The Manitoba Vitals index has a birth registered in 1909 for an Elizabeth Irwin whose mother is named as Annie Quigley (Quigley seems quite close to Quinley?). I am wondering if this might be the Lily in the census above? The index doesn't give father's details as a rule so you would need to purchase the cert for that info but it might provide the link you are looking for. The genealogy certs are quite inexpensive, $12 CAD.

1911/Saskatchewan/Battleford/15 Townships 34/page 32

Household 296
Irwin, Frederick, head, b. Aug. 1886, Ireland, age 24, farmer, imm 1908
Annie, wife, b. Jan 1886, Ireland, age 25
Lilian E., daughter, b. Feb 1909, Manitoba, age 2
Clifford, son, b. Feb 1911, Saskatchewan, age 3 months

Irwin, Thomas, brother, b. Sept 1884, Ireland, age 26, farmer, imm 1908

The residence is Township 34, range 18, W3 ( West of the 3rd Meridian)

The birth for Feb. 1909 for Lilian E. matches the birth found in Manitoba for Elizabeth Irwin, Feb 15, 1909.

It would be better if you keep to one thread when looking for information as it is easier for those who are searching for info for you.

Is there anyway to check that Thomas Robert Clifford Irwin's parents were William and Ann?

So others know, the Winnipeg Free Press article mentioned in your other thread gave T.R.C. Irwin's parents as Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Irwin.

There's an Annie Quigley working as a domestic in Souris, Manitoba on the 1906 census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Here's a link: http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e049/e001205328.pdf

Jacquie
Canada: Patterson, Brown, Haidenger/Heidinger, Meyer, Johnston(e), Gorsuch, Kitchin/Kitchen
United States: Patterson, Smith, Brown, Vance, Bower(s), Newberry, Best, Love, Gorsuch
England (Northumberland): Brown, Whitfield, Henderson
Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian): Johnston(e), Bell, Galloway, Campbell, Robertson, Williamson, Thomson, Crawford
Germans from Russia: Haidenger/Heidinger, Meyer, Meach, Lorenz

The Annie Quigley in the previous post appears to have been under the Home Children category according to LAC.
Annie Quigley, age 22
Lake Champlain, 1905
Port of Arrival - Quebec, 1905-06-10
destination - Winnipeg

A large number of "domestics" in Mrs. Sanford's party - mostly single women in the 20's going to Winnipeg. Most were Scots women with some Irish and a few English.

I took a look at the passenger list. Not much information but does state Irish with residence Glasgow, but that has a line through it and a name written above that I can't make out.

Went back and looked at the census info in the previous posts and all state immigration as 1908 except the 1921 which has immigration as 1905. So some census may have used Fred's immigration date and 1921 may have used Annie's immigration date.

Found this when searching. Thought It was interesting so will post.
www.yorkshire-aircraft.co.uk/aircraft/yorkshire/york43/bj918.html

Will post the info just in case you can't access the site.
Dishforth Airfield - Airfield accidents in Yorkshire
Wellington BJ918 at Dishforth Airfield
On 28 Feb 1943, the crew of this aircraft werein the process of taking off for an operational flight to St. Nazaire when the starboard engine failed to take off. The pilot made a rough landing near, what was then known as Dishforth Crossroads, aroung a mile south of the airfield at 18.05 hrs. The crew escaped injury as the bomb did not explode.

the article goes on to state the crew members and also lists what happened to them later in the war.

One of the crew was
Air Gunner or Bomb Aimer - P/O Thomas Robert Clifford "Cliff" Irwin, RCAF (J/22523) of St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada

On 14/15 april 1943, P/O Irwin was flying in Wellington HE733 on Ops to Stuttgart when the aircraft failed to return to base. He was on the run for a month before being taken prisoner of war.
