Baker family in Vancouver, 1921 census.
« on: Thursday 31 October 13 13:28 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find this family in the 1921 census.

BAKER
Horace born 1882 England
Annie Miriam/Marian born 1894 England
children born in Vancouver
Olive Gladys born 1917
Doris Margaret born 1918
and possibly Herbert Horace born 1919

I would expect them to be in BC somewhere but blowed if I can find them.

Thanks.

I couldn't find them on the 1921 Census either, but I think I found Horace's death registration.  He died March 9 1963, a retired livestock dealer, living at 515 E. 10th Avenue in Vancouver:

In the 1922 BC Directory, page 467, Horace Baker, horse dealer, is living at the same address (515 E. 10th Avenue in Vancouver.)  Presumably wife Annie was also living there but spouses were not listed in the directory until the 1930's.

In the 1920 directory (page 395,) Horace Baker, horse dealer, is living at 1228 Union St., Vancouver.
http://www.vpl.ca/bccd/index.php/browse/title/1920/Henderson%27s_Vancouver_Directory

It seems that at some point between 1920 and 1922, the family moved from 1228 Union St. to 515 E 10th.

Back to the 1921 Census.  515 E. 10th Avenue is in Vancouver Ward 5, Sub-district 35, but on the Census there is a completely different family living there (line 44.)

I haven't yet located the Ward/Sub-district of 1228 Union St., but possibly Horace and family can be found on the Census at that address.

Not having any luck finding them on the 1921 census yet, everything else but that.  ::)  This is the death record for the daughter Olive Gladys Baker Thomson shows her mother as Annie Marian Richardson.

I haven't yet located the Ward/Sub-district of 1228 Union St., but possibly Horace and family can be found on the Census at that address.

It looks like 1228 Union Street should be on British Columbia / Vancouver Centre / Ward 4 / Sub-District 71:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0wpe/

But it seems that the enumerator has made an error in his entries. He has the Ridley's (1236) and the Ems (1224) listed on Venables Street when according to the city directory they should have been on Union Street. The 1228 Union Street address where the Baker's might have lived should have been between those two houses.

I've looked through all of sub-district 71 but did not see either the Baker's or 1228 Union St. It may be on one of the other sub-districts but I'm thinking the Baker's residence might have been missed.
