1 Colebrook Vale, Erith
« on: Friday 01 November 13 04:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I hope someone can help me. Today I received a death certificate for Ellen King. This lady died at 1 Colebrook Vale, Erith on the 21 January 1894 aged 80 years. The informant on the certificate was S Hunter of 17 Colebrook Street, Erith.

On the 1891 cenus my Ellen was aged 81 years and was living with her daughter and son in law Mary and James Lynch in Bexley Heath which has got me wondering if I have the correct death cert for my Ellen but I can find no other likely deaths.

I have not been able to find 1 Colebrook Vale, Erith on the 1891 census.
I had wondered if it may have been a nursing home and that was the reason she died there.
Can anyone give me any further information on 1 Colebrook Vale, Erith. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Pauline

Hi Pauline

In 1881: 1 Colebrook Vale, Erith
Is William BARKER 32 , and his family

In 1881 at: 17 Colebrook Street (off which runs Colebrook Vale)
James HUNTER 52, General Labourer, b Erith
Wife, Sally HUNTER 48, b Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

In 1891, the HUNTER family (James 63 & Sarah 59) is still at 17 Colebrook Street.

And in 1891, at 1 Colebrook Vale is a family named MILES.
RG12/ Piece 637/ Folio 83/ Page13
The head Charles MILES has a wife named Jane,  44, b Crayford Kent. Charles' Father.in.Law & Mother.in.Law , John (71) & Ellen (84) KING are in the same household.  This Ellen KING is enumerated as  b N.K. (not known).  John is from Hertford, Herts.  Ellen is described as living off her own means whilst her husband John is described as a General Labourer.

It looks as if Sarah "Sally" HUNTER is the informant on the Cert you have received.

Cheers

Hi Ambly,

Thank you so much for finding all this information. It now seems the certificate I received today is not the Ellen King I was looking for. My Ellen King was born in Ireland. So my search for her death continues.

Many thanks again for your help. It is very much appreciated.

Pauline

Hi Pauline

The  Ellen KING of the cert you have  was also born in Ireland - I've just found her in Crayford Kent, in 1841, 1851 & 1861 Census, b Kinsale Cork. Same husband, John KING (born Herts) in 1861 but previously married to a Thomas REYNOLDS born Crayford. Daughter Jane was REYNOLDS.

Cheers

Hi Ambly

Thanks for that information. Ellen King's death I think will remain a mystery. Maybe the death was never registered but I now know the death certificate I have is not her.

Thanks again

Pauline
