The assumption seems to be that Joseph and HelenEllen came out together, what if he came alone?

Neil

I have not been assuming anything.

I do not assume this to be the right Joseph neither do I assume  that Ellen accompanied him if it is the correct man. Eliminating some  possibilities is a pathway to greater certainty.

There are no births to Joseph and Ellen Bennett (nee HARRISON) between 1882 and 1898
We may be further advanced when Jayne our OP returns and is perhaps able to tell us the parents of Joseph and Ellen

Hi there,

Please, have we found them (Joseph Charles and his wife Ellen)  arriving into Australia?   If so, which port?

Cheers,  JM

No we have not.  :-\

I did not mean you Sue or Ros, The OP had already assumed that they travelled here together.
Sorry to have led you astray Neil  :(

Only a Natural find Ros, I should have posted my find on census :-[

This could be his baptism https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N4YC-NBS 20 June 1858 in Middlewich Cheshire with parents John and Ann.

And this could be his parents marriage https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NFX7-WTF John Bennett to Ann Davenport in august 1856 in Lancashire.

But yes we are just speculating until Lady Jayne comes back and gives us more information.  Sue's had some good finds which make him seem probable  :)

Yes Neil perhaps Ellen died in England ...?
cheers,
   Ros

I wholeheartily agree, Sue has made some great finds and Ellen may have died in England or maybe she died on the voyage, or soon after arrival and yes we need some guidance from Ladyjane.

Yes Ros, that is same one's as I found earlier on Census. Much better to have the info now on the thread :-[

My apologies to everyone.

Neil

That certainly seems like the man who died in Australia  with Ann and John as parents.
I'm sure we all appreciate that find ;D

This news item has been mentioned and as there has been no death for Ellen HARRISON I wondered about a divorce....

The Advertiser  13 Feb 1909
MISSING HEIRS IN AUSTRALIA.
To the Editor.
Sir--During the past year a large number of enquiries for missing heirs, legatees, and others who have left the United Kingdom for Australia and in some cases have not since been heard of, have appeared in the "agony" column of the press. These advertisements, which are issued by solicitors, officials, or trustees, are published as the best method of tracing relatives who have dropped out of sight. The following list may therefore interest your numerous readers:--
Joseph Charles Bennett, left England for Melbourne 26 years ago;

Wow Cando well-found  :)  :D Is this divorce in Victoria?

I must admit that when I first found that death notice with wrong wife I dismissed it as I thought Joseph Charles Bennett were all very common names and there must be hundreds of them.  But then I could only find a couple of others with exactly those names and the others ages were way out.  So I posted it as a very vague possibility.  And then Sue and others found confirming evidence and now this seems to make it even more probable.

I do hope Lady Jayne comes back and tells us if we are on the right track.

cheers,
   Ros

Ros,
When you first mentioned the news item re. "Missing heirs" you say family was searching for him.
This makes me wonder whether Ellen ever came to Australia at all.
Was she divorced by Joseph  from Australia though she remained in England.?
You would think her family might know where she was in Australia if she was here at all.
