Thomas Sykes and Sarah Piggott
« on: Sunday 03 November 13 15:08 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any help with the following!
My ancestor Thomas Sykes married Sarah Piggott on January 10th 1822 at Great Addington, Northampton. Their issue was: Joanna 1823 (baptised Woodford), Ann 1825, Sophy 1828, William 1829, Susannah 1832 Thomas 1836, Mary 1840, Jane 1841 and George 1843.
I cannot find any parents for Thomas or Sarah, although there is a baptism of a Thomas Sykes on September 22nd 1799 at Elsworth, Cambridge, son of a Robert and Rebecca Sykes?
Also a possible baptism for Sarah Piggott is on October 22nd 1799 at Luton, Bedford, daughter of a Thomas Piggott and Ann Limbery who married on May 31st 1799 at Luton.
On census return for 1851 Thomas Sykes gives place of birth as Woodford (near Thrapston), Northampton, and Sarah gives her place of birth as Spaldwick, Huntingdon.
Any help or guidance gratefully accepted! :)

I think I have found some more information on Thomas Sykes parents?
James Sykes and his wife (?) Susannah also had a son George Sykes baptised on December 9th 1805 at Woodford Northampton.
I think Susannah may be the Susannah Hefford who married a George Clark on October 20th 1785 at Weldon Northampton. Susannah Hefford was baptised on December 29th 1763 at Welford, daughter of a Thomas Hefford, baptised August 11th 1729, Welford, buried October 8th 1803, Welford. Susannah also had a sister Keziah Hefford, baptised April 19th 1766 at Welford (she married John Hodgkin on March 5th 1792 at Welford).
On the 1841 census for Woodford, Susan Sykes is aged 75 and is a Weaver, living next door to son George and his family.
Can anyone help with Susannahs mother, any help with more information on the Heffords or the parents of James Sykes?
Also does anyone know what happened to George Clark?
Any help gratefully received! ??? :)

Hi 0191alex11.

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

I wonder if we could clarify a couple of things.
Quote
Susannah Hefford who married a George Clark on October 20th 1785 at Weldon Northampton
The marriage of Susannah and George took place at Welford.

Quote
George Sykes baptised on December 9th 1805
The baptism of George was 15th Aug 1819 with a birth date of 9th December 1805
Pg. 15, No. 118.

I need to check the baptism date.

There is one marriage in the N.M.I. to keep in mind for Susannah's parents.

Hardingstone
01-Sep 1749
Thomas HEFFORD of Welford to Elizabeth DAINTON

Hi,
Many thanks for all the help - much appreciated! I think Susannah/Susan Sykes (nee Hefford, baptised 1763) may be buried on January 28th 1846 at Guilsborough, Northampton. I checked Find My Past and the burial record for her says she was 80 years old, so going off the 1841 census this is probably her.
On familysearch.org there is a birth for a George Sykes, son of James and Susannah Sykes, born on December 9th 1805 at Woodford, so by this point obviously Susannah is classing herself as James wife.
The only other info I have found on a possible James is one being buried at Great Addington on May 29th 1821, which states his birth date is 1753?
There is a James Sykes baptised on December 14th 1760 at Bythorn, Northampton, son of a John Sykes and his wife Ann Seymour who I think were married at Bythorn in 1746. If this is James he had the following siblings:
Jeremiah 1759, John 1749, Mary 1748, Elizabeth 1755, Elizabeth 1760, James 1757, Mary 1753, Mary 1765 and George 1764.
Apart from all this I think I am stuck!!
Any help gratefully appreciated to all! ??? :)

Hi again.

Looking at the N.B.I. there is also a brother to Susanna named Joseph
baptised 2 Sep 1762.

We need to see if these children are also siblings at Hardingstone.
Stephen, 13 Oct 1751, Joshua, 1 Apr 1753, Elizabeth, 22 Sep 1754,
Thomas, 29 May 1757 who may move to Welford or not be related at all.
