Arghhhh, maybe I have got it all wrong then!!! Would the best way to find out Janes
maiden name,be  to order a marriage certificate from her marriage with John? I think if that
is the only way to get a definete correct maiden name, I should do that asap!  If they married
in 1845, would the certificate show her maiden name?

I doesnt look like they married 1845 to me, those people married as I stated from Familysearch.Org.

A Childs Birth Cert is always the way to go before looking for a Marriage.

Also Jane was born Pucklechurch according to Census which doesnt add up either.

1861 they are living in Chipping Sudbury Reg District

Is this them?

Sarah Ann Haskins 9

Yes that is them.  They went on to have another child Mercy who you can see in the 81 census.
Does it seem I have gone wrong somewhere in thinking that Jane was Jane Webb beforehand?
I will order a birth certificate from one of the children if you think this is the best way to clarify?

Gosh this is becoming very interesting now because in a later census, the list includes all the
children, Jane Haskins, the mother, and Sticker Haskins as the head of house, whom Ive always
assumed was John, but wondered why he had suddenly changed his name from John Haskins to
sticker haskins.  I thought stickler was a nickname.  Im rather confused still, who had the name Prater, and does that mean people had double barrelled names back then, you must be right, he must
of dropped that name afterwards.  This is all new information for me, I am very very grateful,
and very interested to find all this, as I have been tracing John and Jane and their children for over a year, and seems I have found out more this morning through yourself, than all the other paying websites I have been using!  Where do I find the info you are finding?!!!

https://familysearch.org/
http://freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Search, surname only Stickler, marriage 1851-1851, Gloucestershire
The marriage in 1851 will come up with Jane/Johns Fathers names
(if you have trouble I will be backlater as have to let Son have the computer now)

1841 Census has a Jane Stickler age 12 (1829) as a Servant in Pucklechurch

And does it look like Janes maiden name could of poss been Mealing or Stickler then?
Still doesnt make sense why in a late census, Stickler Haskins is listed as Head of house,
Janes husband I assumed.   If Stickler was her name, why would John have that name.
All a bit confusing!  I do know what we think Jane and John died late 1890's.  They were
buried we think in Downend, Bristol, church called christchurch, then probably known as
the district of Mangotsfield.
